Cervicogenic Headache Prevalence Among Bankers
Abstract
Background: Cervicogenic headaches are classified as secondary headaches, originating from the posterior part of the neck and extending towards the front of the head and the eye on the same side. This discomfort can persist for a duration ranging from a few hours to several days. The extensive use of smart devices has resulted in continual stress on the cervical spine due to the repeated flexed position of the head and neck. This prolonged posture not only induces musculoskeletal stress but also contributes to limitations in neck and head mobility, reduced sleep quality, and a feeling of lethargy. In an office environment, the prolonged use of electronic devices may exacerbate these issues, emphasizing the significance of implementing ergonomic practices for the overall well-being of office workers. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of cervicogenic headache among Bankers working in different banks in Islamabad. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed. The study participants were the Bankers working in banks of Islamabad, aged between 25 to 60 years. Data collection tools used were the Visual analogue scale for pain variable and the Wiley-Blackwell Cervicogenic Headache: Diagnostic Criteria Questionnaire for assessing the factors leading to Cervicogenic headache. Data was analyzed through Frequency Tables in SPSS version 22. Results: Cervicogenic headache is 32.7% prevalent among bankers in Islamabad, as the result showed that out of 61 participants, 20 confirmed the diagnosis of Cervicogenic headache. Out of these 20 individuals, 10 % experience mild pain, 65% have moderate pain, and 25 % fall in the category of severe pain. Conclusion: This study concludes that bankers working in the banks of Islamabad have complained of cervicogenic headaches and functional limitations as well, which affect their quality of life.
